| Buying call options is a risky strategy that provides maximum upside leverage for a limited time period. Large capitalization blue-chip stocks such as Dow Jones Industrial and Transportation Average components often have options with lower premiums (less expensive for option buyers). However, since blue-chip stocks tend to be less volatile (which is why the premiums are lower) timing is still very important. Other stocks not considered blue chips but which have low historical volatility (and thus cheaper options) can also be interesting candidates for option buying. Some option investors try to time their call option buying after pullbacks or "dips" in the current uptrend. Whether or not a stock is currently in an uptrend is somewhat subjective and dependent on the timeframe considered. These are not recommendations, they are only for educational comparison purposes.
